About Ana Prieto

Ana Prieto is the creator of Sourdoughy and a home sourdough baker who learned the craft the same way most of us do: at the kitchen counter, one loaf at a time.

I started sourdough the messy way. A jar of flour and water on the counter, a lot of hope, and very little idea what I was doing. My first starter stalled for days and I was sure I had killed it. My early loaves came out dense and gummy, the kind you slice, sigh at, and eat anyway. What kept me going was that slow, satisfying process of figuring out why: why the starter sulked when the kitchen got cold, why a loaf spread flat instead of standing tall, why some days the dough felt alive under my hands and other days it just did not.

I am a mom of three, so I did not learn this in a bakery or a class. I learned it in the cracks of ordinary days: feeding a jar before the school run, timing folds around dinner, baking weekly because my family kept eating the results. Over years of that rhythm I stopped guessing. I could read a starter by its bubbles and smell, read a crumb by looking at it, and tell whether a dough needed more time or more warmth without a thermometer. None of it came from a textbook. It came from repetition, mistakes, and paying close attention to what the dough was actually telling me.

That hard-won routine is exactly what became Sourdoughy. Every check-in, reminder, and checklist in the app started as something I do in my own kitchen, so the answers you get come from dough I have actually had my hands in, not theory. I built it for the version of me who stood over a stalled jar wishing someone would just tell me whether it was fine, what stage it was in, and what to do next.

What Sourdoughy does

Sourdoughy is your pocket sourdough coach. Snap a photo of your starter and the AI reads its rise, bubbles, and texture to tell you what stage it is in and what to do next, then guides every bake with feeding reminders, a stretch-and-fold timer, tutorials, and real bakery recipes. You can start on the homepage, dig into the free sourdough guides, read longer pieces on the blog, or cook straight from the recipes.

You can follow along with my baking on Threads and Instagram.
